Help Keep Wisconsin Point Clean!

The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve, with support from the City of Superior, are holding a beach cleanup at Wisconsin Point.  The Point is a beautiful place between Lake Superior and the St. Louis River Estuary.  It is an official “Important Bird Area,” and is one of Conde Nast Traveler Magazine’s eight “Best Spots for Bird Watching in the U.S.”  Help us keep the Point clean and enjoyable for people and birds!

We’ll also be asking for your help in identifying hotspots of spotted knapweed, which will be removed later in the season. No prior training necessary.

When: Saturday, May 20, 2023; 9:30 am – 1 pm. In the event of threatening weather, we’ll post a postponement notice on the FOLSR website and our social media platforms.

Where:  Wisconsin Point; Come to Lot 1 (see map below). When you arrive, you will be assigned a work area. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.

What we will provide: Safety vests, garbage bags, gloves, hand sanitizer, masks, and modest snacks and water. There will even be a prize for whoever finds the most interesting piece of trash!

What to bring:  Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather.  Wear sturdy footwear for sand and beaches, occasional damp or wet areas, pavement and bare rock surfaces.
