Volunteer Opportunities

As volunteer opportunities arise, we’re always looking for friends to help out. Volunteers may assist with Reserve monitoring activities, participate in meetings and events, and serve on committees. Opportunities may include:

Lake Superior Estuarium docent

  • Help teach others about the St. Louis River Estuary and the work of the Lake Superior Reserve! See the Estuarium schedule and details here.

Wisconsin Point beach cleanups

  • Keep Wisconsin Point, adopted and cared for by FOLSR, clean for visitors and wildlife alike! Cleanups are scheduled twice yearly - one in spring, and one in fall.

Invasive plant removal

  • Help remove non-local beings such as Buckthorn and Spotted Knapweed from the estuary and learn about the impact they have on our local habitats.

Event support

  • Help with tabling and spread the word about FOLSR, or simply tag along as a friendly face and a helping hand.

… and more!

Serve on the Board of Directors

Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve is overseen by the board of directors who are elected by the membership.

New board members are voted onto the board during our annual membership meeting in February. Anyone interested in serving on the board may fill out the form below— make sure to include “Board Service” as your area of interest.  Members vote on perspective board members using a voice vote, and board members’ three year service begins the date of the meeting they are voted in.

Board meetings are held every other month and all board members also serve on FOLSR’s committees and project groups.
