“That’s a Wrap” on Everyone Can Bird 2025
The last Everyone Can Bird event of 2025 wrapped-up with a record-attendance event at Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory on Saturday, October 11. Fall colors were beginning their full display as raptors, such as Red-tailed and Sharp-shinned Hawks soared overhead. Other notable avian attendees included Bald Eagles and Turkey Vultures, and many smaller perching birds also flitted among the trees of Hawk Ridge, including Kinglets and Chickadees.
Participants were able to engage with birding experts and learn about identification, bird behavior, and the annual migration. There were a variety of activities, including the infamous migration challenge, led by Margie Menzies, Education Director at Hawk Ridge. Birders explored the forests of Hawk Ridge led by Pat Collins, retired natural resources professional from Minnesota Land Trust and birding enthusiast, as well as participated in the “Eyes On the Skies" program, led by naturalists from Hawk Ridge.
Combined with the events at Chambers Grove, Woodstock Bay, and Millennium Trail, participants from all three events were able to see a variety of birds from different habitats. Free binoculars were available to borrow, and scopes were set up at the event for easy bird identification. Every event included free transportation from spots in Superior or Duluth, moving and stationary activities, an all-terrain track chair and other mobility equipment, American Sign Language Interpretation, and other features to accommodate participant needs.
