What: Fall Bird Walk at Wisconsin Point
When: Saturday, September 25, 2021, 8:00-10:00am
Where: Lot #4, Wisconsin Point, Wisconsin Point Rd., Superior, WI
Hosted by: Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve
We are pleased to have two great birders leading this walk. Steve Kolbe is a researcher with the Natural Resources Research Institute, University of Minnesota Duluth. Jeff Davis is the president of Duluth Audubon. We are hoping to see fall migrating species, including water birds, warblers, and hopefully some raptors. Anyone is welcome to join us. No experience is necessary.

This event takes place at Wisconsin Point, an Important Bird Area within the state of Wisconsin. The Point is located within the City of Superior, a Wisconsin Bird City. And in early 2021, Wisconsin Point was named by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine as one of the top 8 birding destinations in the United States. Come explore the Point and the birds that migrate through it in the fall.
We will meet at Lot 4 on Wisconsin Point. After introductions and a brief overview of the walk, we will explore the beach as well as forest habitats. If time permits, we may then take our personal vehicles to explore the Superior Entry area. The walk is planned to last about 2 hours. Note that from Lot #4, from the paved parking area, there is a smooth transition to an accessible boardwalk. From that boardwalk participants can see both upland birds in trees on both sides. At the high point of the boardwalk are two overlook platforms, on either side of the boardwalk, providing accessible viewing positions.
We will have a limited supply of binoculars and spotting scopes for those who don't have their own. We will be happy to lend those out for the event, as well as orienting you to their use.
Please dress for the weather and wear good shoes for walking in the woods and on the beach. A pair of binoculars will be helpful. We encourage all to take appropriate cautions related to COVID-19.
Following is a map of the meeting location. If you have questions, please contact Mike Koutnik at contact.folsr@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you on September 25.
