2021 Fall Wisconsin Point Beach Cleanup

The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve, in partnership with the City of Superior, is holding our second annual Fall Beach Cleanup at the Point. Wisconsin Point is a wonderful destination for relaxing, refreshing, and enjoying our natural world. Many people visit the Point in all seasons. Did you know Wisconsin Point is also a designated Important Bird Area? And this year Condé Nast Traveler® Magazine declared Wisconsin Point among the eight best birding destinations in the country! Everyone is welcome to help us keep Wisconsin Point clean and enjoyable for all.

PLEASE register for this free volunteer opportunity here:

We also are looking forward to getting help from our friends who participate in an annual event called "Jaegerfest." Jaegerfest is an informal 3-day gathering of dedicated birders who come to Wisconsin Point to view the annual migration of birds known as "parasitic jaegers," a family of species of large, gull-like birds. The best time to see jaegers at the Point is in a narrow slice of time each fall, around the 3rd weekend in September. We've aligned our 2021 Fall Beach Cleanup with Jaegerfest and welcome Jaegerfest participants to spend an hour or two helping with the cleanup. Families and children accompanied by a responsible adult are welcomed and encouraged. Make it a family event!

We will have a tent set up at Lot #1 on Wisconsin Point. PLEASE register online. On cleanup day, Sep. 18, please come to our tent at Lot #1 to check in and get supplies. See the map below for location details. We will provide everything you need to make it easy to participate:

  • Garbage bags

  • Safety vests with reflective strips

  • Garbage "pickers"

  • COVID-19 safety items: gloves, masks and hand sanitizer

  • Snacks, both sweet and salty

  • Soft drinks and water.

We strongly recommend dressing for the weather. Sturdy footwear, preferably boots, are best. Be prepared for rain. And dress warmly. We will only reschedule if hazardous weather is predicted.

During our 2021 Spring Beach Cleanup we collected 528 pounds of various refuse. We look forward to your help in collecting all we can on Sep. 18. Please send any questions to makoutnik@gmail.com.

This event is co-sponsored by The Friends of Lake Superior Reserve and the City of Superior.
