The Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve (FOLSR) hosted their semi-annual beach cleanup event on Saturday, October 12. With the help of 11 volunteers, 63 lbs of trash was collected from the shorelines and beaches of Wisconsin Point.

Data on the trash collected was compiled by volunteers and contributes to a larger database of information about litter on Great Lakes shorelines. Aside from trash collected, volunteers also reported illegal dumping of garbage, a sad, yet common problem for Wisconsin Point.

On a more positive note, our volunteers had a productive and fun morning collecting trash. Volunteers were local Wisconsinites and Minnesotans, as well as a couple on vacation from Iowa!

FOLSR adopted Wisconsin Point as part of the Adopt-A-Park program with the City of Superior in 2021. We host beach cleanups every fall and spring, and we’d love for you to come join us!

Join our volunteer list to be notified about future beach cleanups, as well as other volunteer events you can be a part of.
